Dog Walking Essentials — What to Take on Every Walk
Share
A dog walk needs three things: dog, lead, you. But if you walk regularly — especially in the UK where the weather is reliably unreliable — a few well-chosen extras make every walk better for both of you.
The absolute basics
A well-fitting harness or collar — If your dog pulls, look for a harness with a front clip. If they walk well, a comfortable harness or collar and a standard lead works fine. Our Adjustable Harness, Lead and Collar Set is a soft, adjustable option for everyday walks.
Poop bags — Non-negotiable. Clip a dispenser to your lead so you're never caught without one.
Water — On anything longer than 20 minutes, bring water. A portable water bottle with a built-in bowl is the most practical solution.
For longer walks and days out
Treats — Useful for recall and rewarding good behaviour. A treat pouch keeps them accessible without digging through pockets.
A waterproof coat — Short-haired breeds genuinely benefit from a waterproof raincoat in UK winters. Introduce it at home before a rainy walk.
Reflective gear — In autumn and winter, visibility matters. A reflective harness or light-up collar pendant keeps your dog visible at dusk.
For driving to walks
A car seat belt keeps your dog restrained, which the Highway Code says you should do when driving. A waterproof car seat cover keeps your seats clean after muddy adventures.
